Tax Filing Guide (990-N)
CTAs must file IRS Form 990-N each year to maintain nonprofit status. This simple form—also called the e-postcard—can be completed online in minutes.
Who Must File
Any CTA that has its own EIN (Employer Identification Number) and receives or spends money must file annually—even if your total is $0.
When to File
The deadline is November 15 each year.
How to File
- Visit https://www.irs.gov/990n
- Click “Submit 990-N”
- Create or log in to your IRS account
- Enter your EIN and verify your CTA name
- Answer basic questions about income and activity
- Submit and print confirmation
What You Need
- Your CTA’s EIN
- Mailing address
- Contact name and email
- Total income (if any) for the year
Troubleshooting
- Need to find or recover your EIN? Visit https://www.irs.gov or ask your bank.
- Filed late last year? You may need to re-activate your account.
