The Engagement Strategies course, shares instructional strategies teachers can incorporate into their instruction to boost student engagement.

Strategies shared are presented in three different categories: 

• Group participation
• Partner participation
• Individual participation

Most strategies presented can be used across a large span of grade levels and content areas; while some may require adapting.

Course description: 

This course consists primarily of three recorded 30-Minute Webinars led by master teachers. If videos are not an effective method of learning for you, this course may not fit your personal learning needs.

The topics covered in this course will help you to better meet the needs of

• students with special needs
• students that are English Language Learners
• and students identified as gifted

Much of this course will help to support classroom management. Classroom management is not the same as discipline. Discipline is a response to a misbehavior, while good classroom management requires proactive planning so misbehavior is less likely to occur in the first place. While a portion of this course will be devoted to learning about behavior management, the primary focus will be the proactive measures a teacher can take to avoid misbehaviors while establishing a positive learning environment. 

 Recommended for third grade teachers and above, this course will provide reading strategies that can be used in various content areas. Many of these strategies are also transferrable to implement in daily instruction to boost student engagement. 

 Universal Design for Learning (UDL) honors the professionalism you bring to teaching. UDL helps you address learner variability while still adhering to the focused learning of a lesson. It acknowledges your relationship with students as you consider the needs of students in your classroom. Furthermore, it supports the high-level learning you want all students to achieve by honoring the voices of students and building choice into their learning. I know you want to make that learning meaningful to students in a myriad of ways. Join this course to explore the basics of UDL and its role in engaging lesson design. 

The Promoting Multiple Literacies through Canva course, introduces you to the world of Canva, explores the basics of graphic design, and discusses the different types of literacies you can address with Canva. Traditional literacy, which refers to the ability to read and write, has always been an essential skill. However, being literate today extends beyond just reading and writing. Different types of literacies are:

• Traditional literacy: The ability to read and write effectively
• Information literacy: Conduct research using multiple sources as well as evaluate and cite sources
• Digital literacy: The ability to effectively navigate and comprehend digital information
• Media literacy: Analyzing and critically evaluating media messages
• Visual literacy: Interpreting and creating visual content
• Cultural literacy: Gaining awareness of global communities to understand customs, culture, and traditions

By promoting multiple literacies, schools are equipping students with the necessary skills to thrive in the modern world.

This course will cover the tips for building a classroom environment that promotes lively discussions, as well as multiple strategies instructors can adapt to their classroom.
