Missouri law requires an active classroom teacher to serve as a non-voting member of the State Board of Education, but that seat has remained empty since the law was passed more than seven years ago. The retirement of Commissioner Karla Eslinger makes it imperative that a teacher be appointed to that role so current educators have a seat at the table as her replacement is considered.
