So You’re Trauma Informed- Is Your Instruction?

Understanding trauma and the impact of stress on students is important, but so is leveraging education to help ensure achievement and future success. Participants will develop a better understanding of the neuroscience behind stressed brains and will then gain multiple methods to help restructure traditional tasks in ways that promote intellectual safety. These strategies are a great equalizer for students of all ability levels and demographics and can help close achievement gaps. Safety is necessary for our students who come from trauma or experience chronic stress, but what is necessary for some is good for all. The creation and implementation of these tasks are low burden for educators. However, these tasks will have a high impact as they will help students grow socially, emotionally as well as academically.

Learner Outcomes:

Gain an understanding of how stress and/or childhood trauma impacts learning
Learn ways to incorporate intellectual safety into learning tasks.
