Workshop description:

It is a stressful time in education. To carry out the work we want to accomplish in the classroom we must first understand the impact of stress on the brain and our students' basic needs. Using the principles of the Neurosequential Model and traumatology helps us to better address factors such as disruptive behavior, low motivation and other behaviors that teachers are currently seeing in their classrooms. First, we must learn how to reach our students, then we can teach our students.

 Learner Outcomes:

  • Gain an understanding of how childhood trauma impacts learning and behavior
  • Understand the basic principles of the Neurosequential Model
  • Understand how to make adjustments to current procedures in order to create a brain-friendly environment
  • Learn ways to incorporate intellectual safety into learning tasks

Getting there: http://www.bunkerhillretreat.com/about/map-directions/

Bunker Hill is scenic and secluded which means it’s also remote but not terribly hard to find. If you’re using GPS, you may lose your signal along the way. You’ll want to acquaint yourself with the map before driving. My number one navigational tip is once you take Hwy. 17 to Hwy. O, you’re done thinking because when Hwy. O ends, you’re there! If you get lost, call Bunker Hill (417-934-2333) and they can give you directions.

When you pull into Bunker Hill, proceed straight down the hill (don’t turn right) and you’ll see signs for where to check in.
