We would love to see you in Jefferson City this legislative season, but we all know how COVID has changed our routines. Fortunately, we are still able to make these important legislative connections virtually.

This year, Capitol Visits will be virtual, but MSTA members will still have the ability to keep up to date on legislation and budget issues during the session.

We know educators are extremely busy juggling all types of learning, so thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to attend your MSTA Capitol Visit. As we return to normal, your personal involvement in the legislative process is more important than ever.

Please attend a virtual visit and continue to work to build a relationship with your representative and senator.  Share your stories of how you and your colleagues continued to teach Missouri’s students during the pandemic. Give your elected officials a little glimpse into your life. You can also give them a glimpse into your school by inviting them to Zoom with your students or your CTA.

I hope your virtual visit is a rewarding experience that you share with other members and encourage them to attend in in-person visits next year. Public education maintains a strong voice in the Missouri Capitol because of members like you.

One of the most visible responsibilities of the MSTA Government Relations Department is lobbying the Missouri legislature. In addition to advocating at the Capitol, MSTA staff works with other state departments including the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and Public School & Education Employee Retirement Systems of Missouri (PSRS/PEERS). The Government Relations Department also staffs the MSTA Education Policy Committee and MSTA Impact, MSTA’s political action committee. If you would like to become involved in any of the work of the Government Relations Department, please don’t hesitate to contact me at any time.
