Springfield chooses exclusive representation

On Tuesday, teachers, counselors and librarians in Springfield R-12 chose to have exclusive representation during the bargaining process.
Out of 1,790 eligible voters, 997 votes were cast. In the final tally, 574 voted for exclusive representation, 404 voted for multiple representation and 18 voted for no representation. The results mean that 32 percent of the educators in the district chose the direction for bargaining for all teachers in Springfield.
"We are very appreciative of the effort our members put forth during the election process," said Charles Brooks, MSTA's manager of CTA organizing. "We are committed to providing a positive voice in Springfield and we look forward to making sure our members' voices are heard by both the school board and the administration in the years to come."
In early 2010, a second election will determine which group will provide the representation—MSTA or SNEA.
